1. Carpet Cleaning Reviews
The #1 most important factor when choosing a carpet cleaner.
If a carpet cleaning service has little to no reviews it could be a big red flag. There is a possibility they’re a completely new business which would make sense why they have little to no reviews.
What platforms do the carpet cleaning reviews come from?
Not all reviews can be trusted. There are many fake reviews online. From my experience the most trusted reviews are on Google and Facebook. Even Google and Facebook actively look for fake reviews and still can’t spot them all.
In the last 2 years our carpet cleaning business has had 11 fake reviews. Shockingly, almost all of the fake reviews were 5 star reviews from another country!
Thankfully I reported the fake reviews straight away and they were removed within a couple of weeks.
1 star fake reviews can be extremely difficult to remove. We have had several fake reviews which we reported but still to this day have not be taken down. My dad also went through a similar ordeal. He received a horrible review on his dental practise.
He reported the fake review and months later nothing had happened. After doing some detective work he found out that it was actually his local competition that wrote the horrible review. He immediately took legal action and the review was removed.
How many carpet cleaning reviews do they have?
Surely the more reviews the more they can be trusted to do a good quality job!?
Let's compare two carpet cleaning businesses :
Carpet Cleaning Business A - Small family run business that cleans 500 homes per year.
Overall rating of 4.9/5 - 106 reviews
Carpet Cleaning Business B - Large business with 10 employees that cleans 4,000 homes per year.
Overall rating of 4.9/5 - 467 reviews
Both businesses are highly rated. Is business B more trustworthy because they have 400 more reviews? A small family run business is able to do 500 jobs per year compared with a large business which does 4,000 jobs per year. A large business has many more opportunities to get reviews than a small family run carpet cleaning business.
In the end both companies would be a good choice provided they don't have fake reviews.
How to spot fake carpet cleaner reviews?
It’s actually very easy. How many 1 star reviews do they have?
But wait, why does it matter if their overall rating is good?
“I would be wary of a carpet cleaning service with over 10% 1 star reviews”
To compensate for all of the bad reviews they can improve their overall rating with fake 5 star reviews.
For example:
A highly rated carpet cleaning service that can be trusted the reviews will look like similar to this:
A carpet cleaning service that I would be wary of:
Quality of reviews
Which review is more powerful?
Or
I know which review I would prefer :-)
“From my experience, the more descriptive the review, the more helpful and real it is”
In summary, if you find a carpet cleaning service with the following you should have a great experience.
4.5/5 rating or above
50 + reviews
Descriptive reviews
Very few 1 star reviews
2. Punctual Carpet Cleaning
Have you waited all day for a tradesmen to turn up and they never show?
It’s incredibly frustrating! We all have busy lives and time is the most precious resource. When booking a carpet cleaning service ask if they guarantee they will be on time. I would be hesitant in hiring a company that gives a very broad arrival time eg 9 am - 3 pm.
Look for a company who gives an exact arrival time or a reasonable time window eg. 10 - 11 am.
The most common complaint I hear from customer:
The last company turned up 3 hours late
They never turned up
They arrived late and rushed the job
A huge benefit of hiring a carpet cleaning service that focuses on quality not quantity is being punctual.
For the first 3 years of my carpet business we were cheap and relied on cleaning 5 or more properties per day to stay in business. Our main focus then was quantity not quality.
I was often late to appointments because it's impossible to be on time when cleaning 5 homes in one day.
I grew tired of running late and rushing through jobs not giving my best. I changed the business to focus on quality not quantity. Cleaning 1 - 2 homes per day allowed me to almost always be on time and deliver a quality carpet cleaning experience.
My parents always taught me that turning up on time is a show of respect.
3. Experience
Would you want an inexperienced hairdresser styling your hair?
An experienced hairdresser would know the correct shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. The right toner and hair dye so it doesn’t damage your hair. They know how to cut your hair to enhance your face structure and make you look stunning.
Would you want an inexperienced technician cleaning your delicate carpet?
An experienced carpet cleaning technician with a good reputation will cost more because they provide the following
Able to Identify your carpet fibre so the don't damage your carpet
Apply the correct carpet cleaning solution
Clean your carpet with the correct equipment
Did you know if the wrong carpet cleaning solution or method is used it can damage the carpet?
If a wool carpet or rug is not cleaned with a wool safe cleaning solution it can damage the carpet fibre!
High heat can also damage natural fibres such as wool and silk.
4. Attention to detail
Someone who is passionate about what they do is obsessed with attention to detail.
Sadly it seems to be a dying art. I hear this all the time.
“You have spent longer vacuuming the carpet than the last carpet cleaner spent cleaning the carpet!”
Vacuuming is a crucial part of carpet cleaning as it removes 80% of the dry soil in your carpet. If we don’t vacuum your carpet we would be turning that dry soil into mud.
7 benefits of a carpet cleaner who takes pride in his work.
Carpet stay cleaner for longer
Carpet dries within 2 - 4 hours
No resoliing
Carpet will dry much quicker
Cleaning and vacuuming behind doors
No strong or harsh chemicals required
Getting it done right the first time
5. Specialist Carpet Cleaner
Why choose a specialist?
Would you take your car to any mechanic? Or would you be more confident in taking your car to a mechanic that specialises in servicing only your make of car.
A specialist focuses on being the best at what they specialise in. In the carpet cleaning industry most companies do many different types of services not related to carpet cleaning. The more services you offer the more money you can potentially make. The problem with doing so many different types of services is you become the master of none.
"Jack of all trades, master of none" is a figure of speech used in reference to a person who has dabbled in many skills, rather than gaining expertise by focusing on one
Most carpet cleaning services do the following:
Upholstery cleaning
Rug cleaning
Tile cleaning
Pressure washing
General cleaning
Pest control
For example
Would you want just anyone to clean your delicate carpet especially if you have invested $10,000 in having a New Zealand wool carpet installed in your home?
The smart choice would be to hire a carpet cleaning service that specialises in cleaning wool carpet.
A specialist has much more experience in solving your problem.
Why do you need your carpet cleaned?
Feels dirty
Pet odour
Stains
Yearly maintenance
Family or friends coming over
Most customers who call to have their carpet cleaned have a problem they need fixed. I wish more customers would call to have their carpet maintained but that’s not reality. It’s usually a stain or odour that has been bothering them and they can no longer stand it. Or family and friends are coming over and they are embarrassed of how their carpet looks.
