Carpet Steam Cleaning Brisbane
There are no qualifications or training required to become a carpet cleaner. Anyone can start a carpet cleaning business tomorrow! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. This is the main reason why I started a carpet cleaning business in 2006.
I was 23 years old, tired of my job and enjoyed cleaning. Starting a carpet cleaning business required very little investment.
Was I any good 15 years ago when I first started?
Well…. I had a good work ethic and tried my best with the little knowledge I had of the industry. I made plenty of embarrassing mistakes along the way.
Over the years I have learnt the more training courses you complete, the more confident you become in your ability. The more you learn and improve, the better the experience is for the customer.
A true professional never stops learning. I owe a lot to several carpet cleaning mentors who took me under their wings. They had over 70 years experience combined and taught me a thing or two over the years.
I hope to repay the favour and give back to the industry.
Does the type of carpet steam cleaning equipment make you a professional?
No.
Over the years I have had the pleasure of getting to know dozens of carpet cleaners.
One of the most outstanding carpet cleaners I have ever worked with did not have the latest and greatest equipment. What he did have was passion and superb attention to detail.
When I first met him I did what we all subconsciously do and judged a book by its cover. His carpet cleaning equipment was not great and I assumed his work would be average at best. You know what they say about assuming?
At the time I was still fairly new to the carpet cleaning world. I, like many others, fell for the trap of thinking having the premium equipment would make the phone ring. Looking back, spending less on equipment and focusing on good customer service would have been a much better idea.
We knocked out a large job together and I’m embarrassed to admit his work was far superior to mine. To rub salt into the wound, he also noticed several stains I missed. 12 months on I needed help with the same job again but he wasn’t available. I had another local company help me who I assumed did great work as they had the most expensive carpet cleaning equipment money could buy.
To make a long story short , the work was rushed and I had to go back the following week and touch up areas they missed. The client was not impressed!
The moral of the story is
A professional carpet cleaner is not determined by what equipment they use but by the strength of their character.
Passion and attention to detail will always outshine a lazy job with the latest equipment.
If you find a carpet cleaning company that does both, you have found a winning combination! From my experience an owner operator will do a more thorough job than employees because they simply care more.
Cleaning behind doors
Vacuuming the edges
Will treat and try to remove every stain
Now don’t get me wrong, some employees have great pride in their work and do amazing work.
Overall an owner operator is a safer choice when choosing a professional carpet cleaner.
When I had employees turn up to a job without me, clients would often call me asking where I was. I would like to think it was because of my fabulous work :-) however It was because they trusted me in their home.
Do you just want anyone turning up to your home to clean the carpet?
Would you be prepared to spend a little extra to have the owner of the business clean your carpet ?
