Pet carpet cleaner
If so , you have come to the right place.
What does it mean to specialise in pet cleaning?
It means the majority of the work I do on a daily basis is cleaning and removing pet odour from your carpet. I have also completed pet odour removal training courses to give you the best possible results. Removing pet odours such as urine from your carpet is very different to regular carpet cleaning. Most pet odours are located underneath the carpet.
Pet urine damage is similar to an iceberg.
What you see on the surface of the carpet is only a small amount compared to what is underneath the carpet.
My grandma has a lovely cream nylon carpet that was well over 20 years old and still looked almost brand new. She was considering replacing all of her carpet because there was a horrible smell in her home. She was fairly confident it was coming from somewhere in the carpet.
The odour was so strong my grandma was embarrassed to have guests over for dinner. To replace all the carpet was going to cost her well over $10,000. The carpet retailers said she would also need to remove all of her furniture from the carpet before new carpet could be installed. She had several large solid timber bookshelves and glass cabinets. It would be an absolute nightmare to move everything.
The strange thing was the strong odour had only been lingering in her home for the past two months. Before replacing the carpet I offered to come over and give her carpet a very thorough and deep clean.
Two weeks after cleaning my grandma's carpet, I called her to see if the carpet odour had improved. She said the odour has gotten worse and was meaning to call me. The next day I went over to inspect the carpet. When I arrived I was shocked how bad the odour had become.
I noticed several large yellow stains in the dining room which where not there before. I moved the dining table and pulled back the corner of the carpet to look underneath.
To my horror the entire back of the carpet was covered in yellow circles. The smell was horrendous! I pulled up some of the foam underlay underneath the carpet and squeezed. A dark yellow liquid dripped from the foam underlay.
There was no denying it. The underlay was soaked in dog urine. It all made sense now. She had just got a new puppy, you guessed it two months ago!
The adorable puppy had been sneaking off to the dining room at night and using the carpet as his own personal toilet. The reason the smell had become worse after cleaning was because cleaning the carpet adds moisture to the dog urine causing it to off gas. To improve the urine odour we needed to treat the urine.
I applied several litres of urine treatment to each stain so that it soaked deep into the carpet , foam underlay and concrete. This helped break down the urine molecules so I could then extract the urine with our powerful carpet cleaning truckmount. Two hours later I was done extracting the urine from the dining room carpet.
The true test will be how the carpet smells in two days once it has fully dried?
This time my grandma called me and was over the moon. The horrible odour was almost completely gone. She could now get back to having friends and family over for dinner again.
Can you guarantee complete removal of pet urine?
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee complete removal of the stain and odour. I really wish we could but it’s just not possible to always completely remove the smell.
If your dog or cat has been urinating on one particular area numerous times it may have soaked into the underlay and subfloor. To find out what type of subfloor you have carefully pull back a corner of carpet. Be very careful not to tear the carpet or cut your fingers on the carpet smooth edge. I would recommend wearing thick gardening gloves.
You will find the subfloor underneath the carpet underlay. Most subfloors are either concrete or wooden floors. Removing urine from concrete is much easier and safer than removing it from wooden floors.
Is it harder to remove dog or cat urine from your carpet?
Cats have a very long loop of henle - A cat’s loop of henle is extremely efficient at squeezing every last drop of absorbable water that this concentration makes the urine smell foul.
Dogs have a much more diluted urine which means the odour isn’t as strong and less yellow in colour than cats. Cat urine is definitely much more difficult to remove but not impossible. In many cases it is worth having professionally cleaned by a pet cleaning expert before replacing your carpet which can be very expensive.
If over 30% of the carpeted room is affected with cat urine I would recommend replacing the carpet and underlay. Just be sure to have the subfloor cleaned and sealed before new carpet is placed down. Otherwise the odour will still be present.
